My daily is a 07 Silverado Classic Ext Cab (work truck package). 4.8 Auto, gets decent mileage (15.5 around town, 20 on the highway once). Hauls lots of stuff (including the mustang on the trailer occasionally). No problems in 91,000 miles (just had did shocks and front brakes though). The 5.3 would have been nice though.

My 02 crew cab 6.0/4l80 is one good truck. Has 230k on it and I'd drive it anywhere.
Pulls well, comfy all I need

I've been pulling my race car with an 02 Chevy 4x4 with a 4.8. Pulls great. It's had 86k miles on it and has had nothing but oil changes and tires since new.

I think the 4.8 gets the same or maybe slightly better mileage than the 5.3. I had a 99.5 5.3 that i put 150k on and only ever needed oil and gas, and i believe a valve cover gasket around 100k. not a bad truck at all.

Not really. My 5.3 gets better Milage than the old lady's 4.8. And mines 4wd to her 2wd. Could solely be her driving though

The 4.8 vs 5.3 mileage is very very close. Negligible IMO. The true difference is when towing or a heavy load, and the 5.3 gets BETTER mpg than the 4.8. This is my real world experience.

Yeah, I feel like when i owned mine and read the forums regularly consensus was that empty they're side by side but start loading them down and the 5.3 shines.
