  • Best way to reattach taillight lenses

The lenses are separating from the housings on the taillights on my '85.
Is butyl tape still the thing to use for taillight lenses? Are there also metal clips that hold the lens on and if so are they going to be reusable after I separate the lens the rest of the way from the housing?

I know they used butyl tape from the factory but was wondering if there is something better to use 25 years later.

I don't know the fox bodies so tell me this. Will you ever need to remove them again? If not, there's plenty of epoxies that will bond plastic.

I have owned a few fox bodies where previous owners screwed the lenses to the housings from the top, i think most likely to prevent theft.

Latemodel has a kit that includes the clips and butyl tape to attach the lenses to the housings. If you never plan on taking the lenses off, you could epoxy them.
