Harmonic balancer question on sbc

We just got done checking tdc and its pretty much dead on the mark.

What is the timing doing when you free rev it? Does it advance like it should? Do you have the plug wires on the right cylinders and are the rockers all set right?

The last motor ran great. We went up in jet 7 jet sizes with this motor. Nothing has changed as far as fuel delivery besides the jet change.

Why the big change? How do the plugs look?

Rockers are set perfect. Went over them twice when i set them. The advance is locked out. Timing was set at 34 for the heat race. Went up to 38 or the feature. The big jet change was because this motor should put down a bit more horse power than the last motor and that is what Dennis Wells recommended I try.

I also noticed that this motor revs down a lot slower than the last motor and it shouldn't.

Have you went over the manifold/carb area and looked for leaks? Can you put another carb on it and see how it runs?

I looked for leaks but couldn't find any. The carb is only a few months old and is pretty much the best you can buy as far as what's legal in this class. I will go over everything again tomorrow when I put it back together. I may try putting another distributor in it.

Swapped the distributor and now the motor revs down much faster. Throttle response feels like it use to also. Guess ill find out Saturday night if I fixed it or not.

Well the car felt like it was running good but the right front went flat in the heat race.
