  • Beater to pull trailer

We have decided not to make my little 4.7 ram suffer any longer pulling a car and 18 ft trailer. What are some good candidates for a good cheap ride to get the work done. It may pull 3 of 4 cars a month and probably double as a daily to work of about 10 miles round trip. Pickups and suburbans are both ok. My step dad was looking at like a 2001 5.4 expedition with high mileage but I think those motors have issues. Suggestions? Oh and sub 3k would be ideal if possible

Only issues them 5.4 motors normally see is spark plug blow out that's a easy fix with helicoil kit. And the coil packs normally start taking a crap over 100k. Other then that I have seen 4.6/5.4 mod motors run 300-400k if taken care of.

I have a 2000 5.0L mercury mountaineer for cheap, has the 3.73 traction lok axle. Towing capacity should be 7Klbs.

Price? 2wd or 4wd? Stick or auto? Mileage?

Just about any half-ton truck with a v8 will do what you are asking. I would get the cleanest/lowest mile one you can find.

I pull my race car with a 99 dodge truck with 225k miles on it with a 5.9 liter. Has plenty of power and still has the original motor and transmission. Runs absolutely flawless.
