  • 2012 5.0 A/C compressor failure

For the guys that know their A/C.

My Dads quit working last week and was replaced under warranty. Service said the shaft seal leaked locking up the compressor and then destroying the clutch. System was 6oz low on refrigerant when evacuated. There was no mention of a flush being done only evacuation and recharge.

Has anyone seen this happen on these motors? I cant find a single case with my searching online. Should he worry about any contamination from the bad compressor damaging the new part in the future?

Correct procedure is to replace drier/ orfice anytime the system is open

Mark (aka "Nay" on dfwmustangs) '11 GT also had a compressor failure - twice, in fact.

My uncle's (BLK50) '12 Boss 302 LS has kinda weak a/c if you ask me, but no compressor failure.

Yup. Mine grenaded in spectacular fashion about 2 months ago. $1600 to replace everythingand it still doesn't keep up on hot days.

I have been in a few of them and the A/C always left something to be desired.

There is no drier or orfice listed on the repair sheet. I will have him call and ask about that this week.

Its about 6K away from being out of warranty so if it fails again it better do it soon.

My 12' 5.0 was never all that great, recently had to have the system evacuated and refilled, and now it seems to get much colder....I'm wondering if it was low from the factory.

Before mine failed, it was almost too cold. Could have been 107 outside and it would be frigid in no time from a cold start.

wonder what kind of pressures its running in these hot temps? ive wasted a compressor by overcharging it. shouldnt be running over 250 on the high side

It is interesting to hear that there are some with really cold temps. Maybe they have some initial charging issues at the factory for a period, both over and under filled.
