  • Flexplate to Torque Converter Studs ?? Too Short?

I'm swapping my T5 with a C4 - this is the first time I've installed an auto transmission.

I have a TCI torque converter and they supplied 7/16 studs and bolts to attach it to the flexplate.

The supplied studs are only 1" long? They need to thread into the torque converter, pass through the flexplate, and then have a nut put on the end.....

If I leave enough threads on the stud for the bolt, it is barley into the torque converter - if I use more threads on the torque converter I'm not leaving enough for the end bolt.

I have threaded one stud into the torque converter all the way to see where it would bottom out - It went deep enough that it was recessed with the flexplate and still not bottomed and I stopped.

Did TCI supply the wrong studs or am I doing something wrong?

Can I use 7/16 grade 8 bolts instead of the supplied studs? what would be the correct length?

This is the stud/bolt set TCI supplied -http://www.jegs.com/i/TCI/890/146100/10002/-1?parentProductId=747241

Yes, pilot bearing was removed - The transmission slid up to the block nicely. The torque converter spins freely. I believe it is all in correctly.

If your 1" stud thread in all the way anything between 3/4" and 1" long with a lock washer would fit (may not be required but I like to use them)
