  • Belt wearing on front side

I've been fighting this issue since the new motor install and I just saw something "new". The belt is walking on the water pump pulley. I eliminated the smog pump and have an underdrive crank pulley. The belt on it now is 81.5". I put a string on the pulleys to ck alignment and it looks good. Considering trying a 1/2 in. Shorter belt. What's everybodys thoughts?

By "walking" you mean coming forward on the pulley? Do you have a tensioner and if so, is it within it's range? If so then you have an alighnment problem.

Dave a new 81.5" belt rides close to center but after it stretches it's out so I just bought a 81" belt at motor parts I'm Kaufman (80 coupe). I'll put it on tonight and see what happens.

David the motors runnin great. I've got around 800 miles on it now(never drive it). Ive been havin these belt issues but hopefully this shorter belt fixed it. It dosent appear to be "walking" now so well see. Are you talking bout the mustang???

Yeah, last time i had the top-end freshened up and an auto built. Got it all back together and the auto had a case problem and burnt up in about 10 miles. Had another trans built and everything was looking good. I got about 60 miles of so in and spun a rod bearing. So pulled it all back apart and shipped the motor back to midland. A rebuild on the bottom end and reassembly and hopefully i'm good to go for a while. Minus still needing a retune.

I hope the shorter belt works out. I had belt issues on my 97, bout the time I got it sorted out good was when I totaled it.
