  • foxbody overheating under acceleration

    89 mustang 5.0/t5

The guy says he's had this problem for awhile and had the heads checked and put new head gaskets on the car. it has a good shrouded fan, big radiator, and a 160* thermostat. He says the motor has been put together by an unknown party and it has a cam in it. Timing has been set at 30, 32 34 all in.

It runs cool riding around town normally doing the speed limit etc. When he floors it and pulls to 6500 the temps shoot to 220+.

havent tried to bring #1 to tdc to check the timing marks are accurate yet. If the cam was advanced would it cause this issue? Any ideas?

I went through this problem earlier this year. I replaced the HG, water pump, thermostat, fan, fan clutch and the lower air dam. It ended up being a clogged radiator.
