  • Engine upgrade on failure?

Brooks figured out that the #8 cylinder of my engine is cracked. So at this point I'm trying to figure out what to do. I had about 1000 miles on the engine that had all of the machine work done to the block, Scat rods, Keith Black pistons etc.. My mustang is just a toy for my son and I to play with (he turned 13 today) so the plan is to work on it more in the next few years. So at this point should I:
    1. Have Morgan and Sons sleeve this block and put it back together for now.
    2. Buy a 331 or 347 shortblock from Fordstrokers or Keithcraft.
    3. Buy a Dart SHP 8.2 Block and put my stuff in it now, and build a stroker motor later.
    4 . Go LS1

    What do you guys think?

I wouldn't put a cast crank in a dart block or K/B pistons either.

pull the motor and sleeve the block. Did you use nos on it? why did it crack? You didn't bore it over .030 did you?
K/B pistons too loose? Pay special attention to the piston fit. check the lands above the top ring too see if those pistons are clunking around too loose.
don't laugh gas that stock block, it should last quite a while.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

Dart shp, but have woody build you a 363 and be done. It's all heads and cam after that.

While I ride the ls band wagon... I still believe a built right sbf will drag that lsx ass.

Brooks worked on it before he closed his shop.
Block is just .030 (306)and no nitrous.
Block was cleaned, checked for cracks, line bored, bored with torque plates etc by Charles Automotive Machine in Arlington and ran fine for about the 1st 800 miles and then started overheating at idle.

I had the machine shop put it together - so don't know about the piston clearance (I'll check when I finish taking it apart).

                  Thanks

                  Robert

Just get a different block , have it machined and put your guts in it . You could find another 302 block for 50 bucks or less . Why worry about a sleeve in a 50 dollar block . I know you spent some coin in machine work but they are a dime a dozen .

I could not find a 302 block anywhere for $50. More like $200 then no gurantee if it is cracked or can go .030 +$500 worth of machine work. Mike please pm me details on your f150 shortblock. For about $600 I can get a machined stock block from Keithcraft so may go that route.

                        Thanks for the help everyone.

Ive got one that is good that you can have if you want, you just have to come pick it up outside of Venus.
