  • Importance of NEW Intake Bolts

    I recently purchased a 93 Cobra .
The motor intake, valve covers, headers , alt, ac , pulleys, dist were removed.

I am slowly putting it back together.

Do i need to buy new lower intake bolts ? ( lower and upper are still together)

I feel i have the bolts that were pulled, i dont want to spend 40.00 on new ones ??

    Thanks.

Id say as long as the bolts still look to be in decent condition (not stripped & no rust), re-use them...

ah.... is there a way to tell by eyeballing ?

I did notice that ONE of the bolts looked kinda funny , like it was a little warped..

I bet they are TTY .... guess ill be replacing.

                Any hookups ?

I do not like to use the stock bolts . They will rust on the four corners of the intake by the water passages and break off in the head when you try to remove them . This will not happen with the ARP's . This is a very common issue with the small block fords .

If they aren't rusted as Jim speaks of, just roll with them

You can just use grade 8 hardware from lowes or home depot just get the length and thread size, grab a few bolts with washers and you are good. they should be torqued to 28 ft lbs

28 is too much for the 5/16 intake bolts, I'd torque to 20

Bingo , and if you are going into an aluminum head you really have to keep the torque down and check them after a few heat cycles .
