So I need to do something with my rear end.

I have a moser lightweight racing spool I've thought about putting in; but it would make my car just for drag racing, and I'm more of an all around driver.

But I want something better then stock, I'm tired of the clutches shitting out and 1 tire fire if the car isn't perfectly straight.

I have a 31 spline cobra carrier and few 28 splines laying around.

I have the option to pull my carrier and rebuild it with shit I have laying around to buy some time, but im sure that will be short lived.

I drag race my car, I get bored randomly and cruise for hours and if the road is curvy I flog the shit out of it.

What would you guys build in my situation? I'm wanting 1.5 or faster short times, slide and grab around corners and not be a pile of shit like all of my other rear ends.

I have a few extra housings I can have put in a jig and weld the axles tubes, any thing else in housing prep?

Eaton/Detroit tru trac would be nice, but after having the spool everything feels HEAVY!.

And that would put me close to 2k for a rear end and supporting parts.

Going fast cost money, I had 12-1500 in a basic 8.8 build. Moser 28 spline axles, auburn limited slip, Richmond gears, bearing kit, lube, and additive. The trutrac is the way to go in my opinion if you can swing it.

If I'm going to do it. How far will the 31 spline take me? When do you decide up get 33 or 35?

I don't really want to be much over 2800lbs with me in it.

31 spline moshers and a spool will take you into the low 8's in the 1/4,
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

A good name brand locking diff and 31 spline axles will carry you at least to low 10's

How much quicker would the spool be over a nice LSD? It's about 15lbs or more of rotating mass, and unsprung weight. Seems like it would be good for a tenth or so and maybe .5 - 1mph?

What would you expect? How bad would a spool be for hitting corners? Would it just be ass happy, or would it plow through?

How much do you want to spend. I had good luck with moser 31 spline axles and a eaton limited slip with the carbon fiber packs.

trutrac+moser.... I get really good prices on trutracs, I had one in the truck.

Also, Valuetrac, is an American made copy that is cheaper, I have a distributor for those too.

If I could, I want to get away from any type of clutch. To me that's just one more thing to slip/wear out, even if it takes 80k miles lol.

Im really hard on my stuff.
