  • 347 question

This car I bought was advertised to have a 347 street fighter stroker kit in it. Of course, the guy didnt have receipts so he had to come down on his price and I paid an amount more inline with a 302. Here is a pic of a piston and I couldn't see a part number. Is there a way to determine if is or is not a 347 from here or do I need to pull the pan? Thank you

If it's a 347 then it has been bored .030 over and should have .030 on the top of the piston, from your pic I don't see that.

Yeah I didn't see it either. They also make a 342, same thing, just standard bore. Did 302's come with flat tops as pictured. I want to say stock pistons had 2 separate eyebrows or were they connected like this.

I'm not sure i have the necessary tools to that. I've never measured stroke before

Run the piston to bottom dead center . Put a tape measure down the bore and see how far it is from the deck to the head of the piston .3" is a 302 , 3.25" is a 331 and 3.4 is a 347 . This is of coarse also based on bore but it will tell you if its stroked .

Ok I'll do this. Also off topic but I don't want to spam the garage with a million questions. I sold an msd digital 6 box and the car has a ton of wiring all over the place. Can I cut the wires and it still be usable to the buyer? Can they just solder on to it?

Yes but keep them as long as possible and don't cut anything you don't have to .

Ok I was concerned there might be special connectors at the other end of the wire that would be needed

do these pics help in determining the stroke?

I'm on pain meds so i didn't really fool with it. I just took the measurement of the furthest down piston. Does this pic help to identify that it's not a 302 at least? Thanks for the feed back.

Today I'm going to get the motor on an engine stand and open it all up to be certain. Looks like, for once, I might get lucky

I haven't decided. I want to keep to build but then I want to sell and help payback myself for a trailer. Ill most likely sell I think
