    but what is the method of using that die to cut the bolt?

    ive seen a few hex dies where i assume you just put a wrench on it and turn, but the one you posted is circular.

    edit: i just watched the vid you posted. i need a die stock then

        I was looking for the old flip handle drain plugs they use to sell. I bet if you went to any oil and lube place they could hook you up. I know they strip them all the time.

        If you could get one of these to fit in there it would be awesome. Plus you would never strip it again.

          hah. if they had an oversized 9/16-20 i'd give it a shot, but a 1/2 is a bit too small. the hole is currently 15mm.

          and i'm not sure i trust anything other than a bolt to hold oil in my bike. you know what happens when you dump the slick stuff on a rear tire

          i think my best course of action is running a m15 tap back through the hole and using an insert out of a 14-1.25 repair kit, which shoould be 15mm.

            YES. IF that is the size you are sure you need.

            Where are you located? I work in an aerospace machine shop and it is possible if I have some time this weekend I can just cut you one. I will check if our little manual lathe will cut a metric thread or not.
            M16 x 1.25 is basically a 5/8 x 20

              wish i would have saw this, that would have been awesome.

              however, i think i have it sorted. we"ll see if it leaks tomorrow.

              the hole was actually 15mm, so i bought a m14-1.25 thread repair kit from autozone, ran the tap through the hole, put some loctite on the shitty little helicoil spring insert, and screwed it in. seemed to go in well.

              now, i put wheel bearing grease on the tap and it collected a lot of shavings, but is there anything i can do to make sure ANY left over specks of metal exit the pan? without dropping it. i have a magnetic plug.

              pour clean oil straight through? run motor, drain, then new filter and oil?

                I am assuming this is an alum pan and if so - yes. That is really all you can do. When tapping a thread its not like you are spinning it really fast so it doesn't "sling" shavings off to the side. Usually the grease catches everything. Just ask all the 4.6 and 5.4 mod motor owners who have had to replace blown out of the head spark plugs!

                  cool. everything seems to be running as usual. i guess i'll know if i got all the shavings out or not if my motor blows down the road lol.

                  btw hot oil melts/crumples thin plastic. oops! poor driveway
