  • no oil pressure after changing head gasket!!! why??

i have a 85 fox body with a 2000 5.0 in it. I blew a head gasket about a month ago and put new head gaskets on fired it up and have a lot of chattering at the rocker arms. well I noticed I don't have any oil pressure. im guessing that why I have the chattering going on. but why would my oil pressure go away from changing the head gaskets?? please help!!!

Put them on upside down and blocked the oil passage.

What about vacuum? Is the car trying to die? Oil filter have oil?

Did you check the oil pump shaft? Did it come out or something ?

Gaskets are on exactly how the old ones came off . And no vacuem leaks runs fine minus chattering from rocker arms. But how can I check on the oil pump shaft without having to remove the pan

I had similar issues after my h/c/i.

I had to much vacuum on my crankcase, you could take the oil cap off and hear it sucking in air over the exhaust, it was causing the car to not idle when it was warm, and when the rpm dropped i would lose oil pressure causing chattering. I took off the oil filter and noticed it was full of oil and wouldn't pour out.

Reduced crankcase vacuum and changed the filter and went on.

I had pvc vacuum and a vacuum hose going to the oil breather port on the oil filler neck, which is a no no apparently.

Stock gauge ? Did you knock the wire off the sensor when swapping the head gaskets ?

It runs off the distributor. You should be able to run it with a priming tool.

That's a possibility but why are the rocker arms chattering??

You know I did hear a sound (like a socket hitting the ground) when I was setting the timing. And my gauge is afternarket but everything's hooked up as it should be. So I should be able to see if the oil pump shaft it there by removing the distributor??

Haha. Oil passage in headgasket. Good for a chuckle

                          Oil pump shaft sounds like.

Pull the sending unit off and crank over the motor WITHOUT starting it.

Should see lots of oil squrting out, if not, pull the Dist. and see if you can see the top of a 5/16 hex shaft.
Thats the oil pump drive shaft or it should be.

Hopefully you didn't hurt the rod / main bearings running w/o oil pressure.

use a Huge magnet to slide the pump shaft around to the oil drain plug hole to get it out. That if its in the bottom of the pan. Sometimes it will hang vertical in the motor. Pull the pan then.

                          Been there. It sucks.

Only ran for about 10 seconds. I'm gonna check the shaft in the morning will let everyone know

Lol, vacuum pumps can make more horsepower than just normal crankcase breathing, but the rings and oiling system need to be designed for it.
