If you have the $ you can do a great 392 stroker for really cheap. 3.98 crank, about $250, 351 rods, 302 flat top pistons and a balance job.
Sounds great. Remember with flat top 302 pistons the compression can come in above 11 to 1 quite easily. I would recommend a 3.85 stroke and a .30 overbore to unshroud the valves. This would make a 393. Since you are looking at juniors block, which is .40 already, this would be your best option and you would have a ~395 cube motor. If you go that route, you can use stock 351 rods. Otherwise with the 408, you need rods, pistons and a crank. I think I have some old football bolt rods with old pistons on them I would give you Crash.

      Man, I'm so indecisive ! I just think the heads/cam/intake I have wouldn't be big enough for a 351/393-5.

Of course, if I built a 347, I would need to do something about the heads anyway, and put a bigger cam in it, sooooooo........

I would go with the 331 if you want it to fit under a stock hood.

If you'll consider adding some type of scoop onto your hood, like one off a early 80's GT, then I would go with the 351.

For the money spent I would build some type of 351. Stronger block and you already got a t56 which will take a little more abuse than a t5

It all comes down to hood space. Unless you stay with a stock stroke 302.

        331/347 or 351

Only additional cost to go to 351 versus all the stuff for a 302 stroker would be for a swap pan and pu and some motor mounts. Because you will have to upgrade heads, rotating assembly, intake, balancer, flywheel etc for a larger motor anyway.

        In my opinion

Mike , if crash doesn't want the pistons and rods I will take em . I have a bunch of 351's and can always use the parts . Are they standard bore flat tops by any chance ?

Aaron - find out which GT40 aluminum heads you have. If they are X heads those aren't bad and would wirk fine on a 331/347. If they are Y heads they would still work but won't make as much power.

Dizzy will work? The oil pump drive shaft diameters are different, are they not?

yes and distributor is a different length too. truck intake is a very poor decision as well, especially if youre going to go with a 392. I cant even believe I heard that suggestion
