  • 2002 dodge ram front end squeak

My question is directed to those who do auto repair as a profession. The truck squeaks over every bump and every turn of the wheel. Is there a way to hone into which part is worn or do I need to start replacing the usual culprits? Thank you

It's begging for you to put it out of its pathetic miserable life

I had a '03 dodge that did that and it ended up being a bad lower ball joint.

It will likely be a tie rod end or a ball joint. Have someone turn the wheel so you can determine which side it's coming from, then look at the dust boots to see if one is damaged or deteriorated badly. If all of them are in poor shape take a can of wd 40 and spray into one joint at a time then work the wheel back and forth several times. The one that you spray and gets quiet is the culprit. The other option is to buy a mechanics stethoscope from the parts store and listen to everything until you home in on the strongest sound. Since all the front end is metal, the squeak will be heard just about everywhere, but it will have strongest/loudest point.

Ball joints are the first to go on the dodge trucks, usually anyway.

yeah mine had a torn dust boot too, thats how I figured out which one it was in my case. All the grease washed out and it started squeaking.

Those won't generally squeak when you just turn the wheel

Screw stabilizer bars. I do a stage 5 weight reduction and remove the front and rear sway bars. Real men lean in the turns.

Had the exact same problem on a 2000 Ram back in '02. Changed the control arm bushings and the squeaking stopped.

My 03's ball joints wore out and the upper control arm bushings were toast too. I ended up doing new upper arms, lower control arm bushings, and lower ball joints. Not long after that I had to replace inner and outer tie rods too. My advice do them all at the same time and get it over with.

Those trucks are notorious for needing ball joints replaced. Hub assemblies too.

Lower control arm bushings tend to make a lot of noise but its probably time for ball joints as well.
