  • Modding a stock 1997 Mustang gt

It is currently for sale in the vehicle classifieds, but I am thinking about keeping it and beginning the mod process. I would start with full exhaust maybe cold air and a new intake. Any suggestions just to begin opening it up slightly. I know this year is not the best to mod but i figure why not no value in a stock car that is 16 years old. How bad are cam jobs. Where would you all start? Its a convertible.

Nice car! I love the SN95s and that color is cool too. I guess the first question to ask is how much money do you want to spend? If it was my car the first thing I'd do is a PI swap.

      swap a 5.0 in it or a 4v 4.6.

if you don't want to swap motors. swap the intake manifold with a 99-newer pi intake manifold. this is the best Bolton you can do and will give you almost as much power as the pi head swap. then go from there with boltons.

If you just want some seat of your pants fun that will actually be noticeable, throw some 410s in it. The rest of that stuff isn't going to net you dick with that motor, and the gears will be considerably cheaper and easier.

SHORT of doing a full motor swap is what I am thinking. May start with the intake and exhaust. With that intake is it just bolt on or are there other things to switch out as well?

you will need adapter plates to make it work. the ports on your motor are round...the PI are more of a "tear" shape and slightly larger. i wouldn't waste my time/money on that turd, honestly. look into a 4V swap.

                            Haters everywhere in here!
A lot of people told me not to waste my time modding a 2v. Should of just bought a cobra. Everything comes down to expense though, which I understand. There are A LOT of things you can do, as mentioned, gears are going to be the biggest bang for the buck. Other than that, getting stuff to ditch the non pi heads are going to be a huge help. As would a blower.

Motor swaps are very expensive most of the time. You can get an LS relatively cheap, but then you have k member, computer and wiring harness swap, specific headers, different trans, driveshaft, etc. going 4 valve requires almost as much extras as an LS

how much do you want to spend? what are your goals? track times? or roll races? what is the plan.

cold air and intake are not going to get you shit and you will be mad that you spent that money and not feeling a damn thing.
