Electric fan wiring question

I upgraded to an electric fan set up on my truck(2000gmc 5.3) and just have it hard wired to a switch in the cabin. It works fine except if I use my remote start the fans won't come on for the a/c.

So my question is if I run the fan to a relay that is turn on by ignition power, radio ect, will this solve my problem? Using a a source that comes on with the remote start of course

I use a relay for mine. Comes on with the key. Find a trigger that comes with remote and key.

Wouldn't that cause it to only run when the a/c is on? If it is a dual speed fan, I would wire high speed through the a/c circuit and low speed through an ignition source. Implementing a fan controller with an adjustable thermostat.

My t-stat is one that goes in the fins of the radiator. I put it as close to the coolant return as possible and have had no issues so far, other than the fan not pulling enough CFM to cool with the A/C blasting

When the clutch cycles on, it will turn the fans on and off with the cycle. We have ours set up to a 12v to the therm switch and the a/c (5thpin) to a toggle, so it can be turned off going down the highway, and come on when you turn the a/c on.

It's kind of unfortunate, we used ls1 fbody fans in a 01 silverado. I would like to have it come on with the temp switch, but override and stay on when the a/c is on but turn off at 60mph+. How can I do this?

With it cycling with the clutch at idle the constant on/off would cause it to blow fuses. I added some freon and threw in a switch, no more problems.

This is an incredible common upgrade on those trucks and there is a ton of information out there. The best way to do it is grab a set of F-body fans and have the PCM programmed to control them. A few companies sell the three relay harness or you can make one yourself from a diagram.

What type of fan have you already purchased? I may be confused but are you just running it through a switch without a relay right now?

F body fans. Yes they are just on a switch no with no relay. I know a can buy a harness and program the ECM I just didn't wanna put that kinda money into right now. I've got a hefty hospital bill to take care of right now

Pick up a ~$30 fan controller, find a keyed hot under the hood, wire it in, should be problem solved.

Just wire it into the ECM. That is the best way. All you have to do is add one wire and hook it to the relay. Remember the ECM controls the ground so you will need to wire a low current hot wire to the 85 side.

At the very least get a relay on there even if you do retain the switch.

I am sure there is someone on here with tuning software that would be willing to turn on the fan function for you. If you make the harness yourself it would not cost much.
