  • Any Ford techs out there?

I have a friend with a '99 5.4 F150. Some mechanic told him it has a stuck valve. He said it runs bad and sounds like an exhaust leak, so maybe the first diagnosis has some merit.

He's interested in getting it fixed and I told him this board has some reputable mechanics. Anyone have some time to take a look and possibly do a head job on a 5.4? Please let me know. Truck is in downtown Ft Worth so close to that area is preferable.

Worked on a lot of 4.6 and 5.4 Fords and have never seen a stuck valve. You would need to do a compression check and/or pull the valve cover to check that.

Doing head work on those is a mother.... I've pulled a set of heads on one once, that was also the last time.

But that was for a headgasket.

Valves don't normally get stuck, I would get a second opinion.

Most likely. I hope for the mechanics sake it isn't cyl#4.

Thanks guys. I told him to take a look, as I think that's a common problem on the 5.4.

It is on both 5.4's and 4.6's as well.

Maybe Ted will see this, but I "think" he had that issue, and I "think" Greenbullitt repaired it.. Can't remember for sure though.

                Winner winner.

OP, if your buddy needs it, I know a guy that has repaired many of those heads cheap with a thread insert that works excellent (if it blew out the plug). He currently works at a Goodyear shop in Mesquite but also does side work.
