  • 94 5.0 with F cam, dies when cold. Suggest a different cam?

So my buddy just bought a 94 GT 5 spd. The car has full exhaust, hogged out Lightning heads with valve job, 1.6 RR's, BBK SSI intake and an F cam.

Can someone suggest me a different cam for this car so it won't die when cold?

Why do you think the cam is the cause of its cold start issues?

With the lift (.512) and other specs on that cam, a tune may be in order. The '94/'95's computers' are a little more "susceptible" to cam changes. It's kept me from changing cams in my '95. I'm guessing the "F" cam is just not real "computer friendly" in the '94/'95's. I'm betting with a good tune, it would be just fine.

stock cam= lose power, but car will idle right

tune= car will idle right and have more power

I agree , tune it and enjoy . It should run pretty well with that combo and a tune .

Along with a tune switching to a fox tb setup really calmed down the idle issues on our 94. This was a setup with around a .542 lift.

Along these lines, who can tune these '94/'95 cars locally? I've been wanting to throw a cam into mine, but not until I know a good tuner.

Both HPP and Gearheads could do it with ease.

I've been told that's not as easy as it seems. Mine has been tuned for heads, intake,TB, Mass air, injectors, and exhaust. The cam would probably throw it off, though.

With the newer software that has come out in the last 5 years there is no need for that anymore. Back in the day noone understood the load based timing tables of the 94-95 EEC-IV Computers.

Now I have full datalogging capabilities with that older style computer it is quite simple to dial it in effectively.

Let me know if I can help at all
