We won't be doing any towing to speak of, maybe light trailers, a small boat. So I'd it still worth it to go diesel vs gasser?
What years to stay away from? Years recommended?
Looking to spend 6-8k.

Not sure where the buy a big ass vehicle is coming from but ok.

our '02 4x4 7.3 lariat has about 160k on it. We put 130k of those on it. things to watch. front brake rotors warp from the weight. proper wheel torquing helps this. need more torque than the f250 of same year. 15 qts of oil every 5000 miles. fuel filter/water separator every 10k. trans filter every 30k. keep a spare camshaft position sensor and 10 mm wrench in the glove box. I replaced the leaf springs with f 250 springs V codes on the front and B codes on the rear. To try and fit it into garages, Ford decided to put shorter/softer springs on the Xs. hit the bump stops frequently and swayed like a B***. With that said , my wife will not drive anything else. We can pack 3 kids, ourselves, and all our crap for weeks at a time and head up the dirt roads and passes in the ouchita and ozark national forests. Drivent through flooded low water bridges, sloppy muddy fields, dirt 'roads' etc. without concern.

consider an 07-09 Escalade. They are great family trucks. If you are just using it as a family truxter with occasional tow, get a 5.3L Suburban with the 6spd auto. should be fine.
Excursion is just a step up in everything, especially in maintenance costs, let alone fuel costs.
keep it simple.

Only reason I'd tow is Cus it won't fit in the back and a trailer would handle that duty. I have access to three trailers if and when I need one plus I'll probly end up buying a small one for said duty.
So yeah no excursion in my future.Non tapatalk Sig so the butt hurt va-JJs can stop crying about not being able to turn it off.

could be tough finding one with only 100k. the 7.3 rigs are now 10-12 years old in most cases. Mine has 160k on it and I never think twice but I've kept up with the maintenance. Expect to start water pump, alternator and suspension work and replacement around the 125-150k mark so if you find one that has under 20k but recent replacements, Id leave it in the 'consider' column
