  • The great debate : edelbrock or Holley?

I know it's like asking ford vs Chevy, but pros / cons?

Simplicity....... Edelbrock, tuneability performance driveability........ Holley. At least thats my take on it. Edelbrock put a poor taste in my mouth after fighting a 500cfm on my v6. I was never able to find a jet/metering rod / spring combo the car was happy with. My experience is biased in that I simply needed a smaller cfm. I have however battled tuning them on several other combos. For a bone stock 302-350 with maybe a intake or header setup, a 600 edelbrock out of the box will be easy to run for a non mechanical type persons install.

If you're thinking holley and don't mind a rebuild, I've got a 600 vacuum secondary I picked up from Paul(greenbullitt) it has some heat damage to some external parts but I have another complete carb with electric choke, and a holley brand rebuild kit. Pm if interested.

Ah...... I can tell you a holley can be sensative to long periods of sitting. Especially with todays quality fuel and how fast it turns. My holley 390 got to acting pretty poorly, a refresh / rebuild is what mine needed.

Yeah I need something ready to go out of the box. The Holley I have has issues. I put an edel on a friend's car and it worked great with very minor adjustments. But finding people versed in then is tough.

                    Holley
1.If you can't tune a Holley then put and edelbrock on there.
2.If your asking pros and cons then you need to put on an edelbrock.

                      Have you used both?

I have both, I got great gas milage with my eddy 600

My holley 650 double pumper has an awesome peddle feel because of the mechanical secondaries and its awesome when you mash it and they open up and you go fast.

I have the edelbrock 1406 for sale, electric choke and my 5 speed 85 got 23 mpg with it

Yes edelbrock on a 83 silverado thinking it was the way to go for the application,
                          performance sucked and used fuel.
Gave it to a friend to put on his 64 Corvette worked like a champ,he was very discouraged about using the edelbrock cause he has had the same results that I have had. He only wanted use it because his Qjet was leaking (go figure).
I then put a Holley on mine 600DP and it picked up 1 mpg and it stopped smoking.
Although I have no clue as how to tune an edelbrock carb,I prefer the adjustability of the Holley.
I guess the Holley ain't for the faint of hearts.

So you don't have any clue what you are doing on an edelbrock, so it is junk, because you do know how to adjust a Holley?
