Wanting to put a manual rack on my fox, it's rarely driven, don't want to drop the coin for flaming river.
Anyone know the low-buck route that gets the manual rack in and functioning? No, I don't want to just remove the pump and run the stock rack with no power assist. It's been like that forever and it sucks.
Flaming River - $245
Steering Shaft - $240

Apparently the new flaming river rack design requires a new shaft???
Back in the day we put a rack intended for a 79-84 4 cyl on a friend's 90lx. We got the rack at Pep Boys and I don't remember needing to buy anything extra to make it work. In my memory he did replace a lot of front end parts at the same time, but that was because they were worn and I don't remember needing any sort of adapter for the shaft.
This route doesn't seem possible as all of the major parts stores (including rock auto) don't have the racks available to order. NAPA claimed to be able to get one from out of state, but by the time I got down there to order it the rack was no longer available.
Ebay has this - $107 shipped
Anyone know any reason why this alone wouldn't work?
I've also heard this adapter is needed for the Ford or Ford style manual racks to work on foxes
Although, I've heard they are not needed and I sure don't remember an adapter on my friend's car, but I could be remembering that wrong.
Anyone know their shit on this stuff? $107 Sure sounds a lot better than $500 if it works. Hell even $175 does if anyone knows that adapter will be all that I'll need.
