  • Launch & 60' Tips/tricks/pointers?

Went to the track last night, failed miserably. Best was 2 7.9 passes with a 1.7x 60' having to ease into it. If I try and launch it hard, it just unloads the tires. I'm losing a lot of time in the first 2 seconds.

Also, the few times I tried a 5000rpm launch it spun, so I tried going into 2nd and both times it wouldn't go in.... I hardly ever miss gears, and I was pulling it into place fine. T5s don't shift well at 6k I guess.

Car was on new 26x10 et streets and has strange shocks in the back with sve lowering springs all the way around. Subframes and welded boxes.

Here's the last pass of the night, decided its time to hit the learning curve again..

If I were to do coil overs all the way around, what would be the suggested spring rate for a 2700lb car?

Should I just throw my stock v8 coils back on?

    Any suggestions welcome.

      You need some suspension.

I need a lot of things!

Yes, I'm just particular with what parts I use, even though in the end it probably won't make a difference. I won't have a ear to ear grin until I yank a 1.5 or better short time.

I'm thinking I have 2 or 3 mph and 3-4 tents tied up on the first few seconds.

Like i said you need suspension. I went from 1.7-1.8s down to 1.5s with the upr pro kit.

Lowering springs and dragstrip launches don't really go hand in hand. Car looks better on the ground in my opinion. I've got a buddy with some Lakewood 90-10's and dragspring coil over conversion for the front in you're interested, 93ssp is his id on here.

That sounds like it might work better then the autozone struts on the front now.

Ill send him a pm or vise versa

90/10's up front and agreed on the lowering springs. Pretty close to same setup as you on old combo with 4cyl springs and cut half coil off v8 rears (stock shocks) and 90/10's up front and it got me 7.4's all day.

                        First things first.

If you're at the track, and you're trying to 'get your best time' drive it like that's what you intend to do - in other words, don't ease the clutch out like you're on street tires. You'll burn it up, and you'll get inconsistent results. If you're racing it, and worried about breaking it, you're at the wrong place. Besides, that low of a power level probably needs the spin to keep the engine up in the RPM enough to not fall out of the torque curve.

That car should 60'd in the 1.68-1.72 range on complete stock stuff.

This is what I mean by letting the clutch out.

I was Able to tug the front wheels on the street with 2'' lowering spring and stock uppers and lowers. I suggest putting stock spring back in the rear.

Thanks guys. I guess a 1.7 isn't too bad for stock set up, but it feels like its down in power off the line. when I leave hard it blows the tires off, leave easy it's slow.

Thanks brooks, that's twice now you've showed me that video. I wish my car would leave like that, I'm going to change out the springs and see what kind of difference that makes, and go from there.

There's a reason. Not because it's my car, but because of the perspective, you get a good idea of what has to happen and how it has to happen.

Springs are likely to not do anything, but shocks would help more - the more likely problem is that it's bouncing the tires off of the ground and unloading, springs will not fix that, but shocks with adjustable rates would (Strange shocks are relatively cheap and do just that). I'd also consider the problem being however much air you're running. On that car, you can get by with a LOT of air by comparison to a car that makes something like 500HP.
Again, With a 'lower' powered car, most of the time, it needs to spin to keep it up in the torque curve.
