  • Still having an issue...

Car was running fine, put a blower on it and had it tuned after I changed the injectors over to 42 pounders and ever since then it has ran weird intermittently. Sometimes it runs just fine, but then all the sudden it feels like a cylinder drops out and idles rough, runs lean, and lacks power. Then all the sudden it will snap out of it and go back to normal.

I ran a cylinder balance test, and it showed an issue with number 7. I suspected that the fuel injector had an issue since it was bought used. Last night I moved the injector two a different cylinder, ohm checked all of them, cleared all the ECM codes, and ran the cylinder balance test again and number 7 still fails. I don't see any breaks in the injector harness and no change in idle A/F ratio while jiggling the harness in various places. I also double checked the plug, seems fine. Autolite 24s.

    What now?

Check your signal wires. Usually they splice in at a common area. Also ohm the wires while doing a wiggle test It's not uncommon to have wires break inside their insultion.

Checked the signal wires... Got a noid kit, verified good signal on a different cylinder, then tested #7 and got nothing.

Ohm'd from ECC to salt & pepper plug = .002
Ohm'd from salt & pepper plug to injector plug = .004

No change with any jiggling. Had a solid beep on my DVM so I feel like it has good continuity.

I tried on another computer that I had laying around, and the injector lit up at that point.

Does this mean the computer is bad? It's an A9L... can I just swap it out with one from Autozone or what?

Nevermind, autozone didn't have any, neither did any of the other places.

Anybody have a spare A9L sitting around?

wait, isnt it bank to bank on these? If you have one dead one, there is a wire broken somewhere, id think.

I traced the wire all the way back to the ECM and its good. I tried a different computer, and the noid light lit up while cranking. Put the A9L back in, and no more light.

What different computer was it? Clean the port very well and that chip will override the slightly different tune on the ECU itself so u can try it with that different computer.
