318 is an old school work horse. As long as you maintain it, you'll have to shoot that bitch to kill it.

Worked on the headlights and foglights today. It isn't perfect because I don't have the drill setup, but at least they are clear again. Also an interior shot to show how clean it is. Drives fine when you manually shift. I think the problem is that it doesn't want to shift into first.

That would be awesome. When in drive it struggles to get going, but once you are up to speed it is fine. It feels like it is trying to start in 3rd. When you put it in "1" it takes off just fine, but it doesn't feel like first, it feels like second because it turns okay rpm at 40.

Sounds like the governor pressure solenoid is fucking up.

Change that out and it should be OK.

Governor solenoids are shitty in the 46-47-48 series transmissions. My 47RE has an Allison Governor Conversion setup in it now, gets away from the shitty parts to something more dependable but at $300. IIRC the pressure sensor itself generally seems to be ok, just the solenoid that's the problem.

From what you are describing it's likely in limp-in mode, only having second and third gear. Don't drive it too much as it's hard on the clutches.

Kenny Wilson is the guy to fix it for you if you're not up to the task.

I think I'm just going to pick up a used one with a warranty and swap it out. Why spend 200 to maybe fix a 200k mile tranny when I can spend $500 and get a used guaranteed one.
