  • Help! 2000 durango

    white, leather, 5.2

body is in good shape, paint is good, interior is good, tires are good.

here is the kicker, it has transmission issues. Drives fine once you get going but it feels like the converter is slipping down low. Also has a miss on idle. 210k.

I have a chance to pick it up for $800. To flip or drive. Yay or naynay?

Nay it's a dodge x.7 motor and probably not much profit left after the transmission to flip it

Try a tps sensor 1st. My 4.7 dakota had the same symptoms.

                4.7 is a nightmare.

Headgasket failure and dodge makes the worst vehicles on the road.

Ugh....Dodge. My Durango has the 5.9, mileage sucks but at least it is reliable.

Well, they were asking $1500. I offered the $800 I originally planned on. We will see if they take it. I kind of plan on just driving it as is until it dies. And then selling it for a few hundred bucks.

I'd buy it if I could. The 4.7 are easy to work on and reliable. Mine have never failed. Count on exh studs or two to be broken. And if that's too big of a challenge, ya don't need to be working on cars much lol. Anyways the ones I had to work on are no harder than anything else.
<always had good luck with them except in fuel mileage department

There's a shop we deal with at work. At least once a week we bill out a head set and timing set for a 4.7.

I mean, any engine will last if you're on top of things and pay good attention.

What's wrong with your white truck?

                        Spend $800 on a 5.3 and 4l60e and let's swap.

They don't like high mileage oil changes, as no other newer vehicles don't. The oil passages are small feeding the timing and chain tensioners, excessive mileage between changes causes them to gunk up and not hold proper tension killing the timing sets.

Before or after they replaced the water pump with broken impeller? The more likely initial issue lol

I wont touch them with a 10 foot pole. The 4.7 is known for HG and rod bearing issues and the transmissions are pure shit. They go dirt fucking cheap at auction and I still wont touch them.
