  • Opinions on gear ratio...

I've done some research but just want some of your opinions.

I've been running 2.73's because of the drive I used to make. The car is now just a weekend toy. Mods are cam and vortech running ~8#. Heads and intake are in the future. I don't run at the track, and we drive this car on the highway when we drive so I'm not even considering anything above 3.73.

I'm leaning towards 3.55s but didn't know if I should consider 3.27's as well? I plan on the car pushing around 450whp and very streetable.

    Thoughts?

I actually got better miliage with 3.73's than I did with 2.73's. That was n/a, I dont know if the blower would change that though.

My vote is 3.55s. My old '90 LX hatch was stock engine with ported lower intake, 1.7 roller rockers and Vortech A-trim making 11 psi. It put down 360 rwhp and 390 rwtq. With the stock T5 trans and 3.55 gears it felt like the perfect street combo. 1st gear wasn't too short and plenty of torque to pull the car in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear.

My current '92 LX has 3.27 gears with mild H/C/I (265 rwhp & 305 rwtq), but I have 3.55s in the garage that I plan to swap to eventually.

Check with Paul (Greenbullitt) about installation.

My 373s feel damn good with my 320/315 n/a with a 26" tire.

3.55s should be nice with that set up if you run a 26" tire. If you're running a 28" I'd say 3.73s.

Ask yourself. How fast is too fast? Make that number the top of 4th gear. I'd suggest sub 150mph.

I got 21-22 mpg with hci and 3.73's. I'll never go lower than 3.55. Love 3.73's
