  • Boosted High Horsepower Motor Oil?

Just bought a YSi to put on my Dart 347 and was contemplating whether I need to run a heavier oil. Ran 5w30 synthetic in my old 500hp 306 but thought if I end up making 700+rwhp, maybe I should reconsider what to run. What's everyone's recommendations? I've heard Mobil 1 15w50 is good for this application and some friends recommended Valvoline VR1 20W50. What say you?

Rotella T6 5w-40, I road race a turbo car with it, been great. Oil temps have gone over 300 w/o issue, but I don't recommend oil temps that high

      Ford gt calls for 5w-50.

      I'd suggest something similar.

That is what I run in my truck. It is okay okay in a gasoline motor? Anyone else ever done this?

I use it in my boat(330hp 350), and have since it was new with zero issues.

This, I have run Rotella T since my turbo fox in every car I own. It still has zinc, 1400 ppm I believe.

I've found a lot of people singing praises for T6. I think that's what ill be switching to.

Correct me on this one but I read the heavier weights are better for the turbo, not necessarily the motor

The heavy weights help protect the bearings under high stress environments buy giving a nice thick cushion between the bearing and crankshaft journal. I'd the oil is too thin, the film gets broken and you have raw metal to metal contact and failure is the ultimate result.

From what I understand, its the resilience to break down under high heat conditions that make an oil good for turbos.
