  • At what point do you need an aftermarket harmonic dampener?

Getting ready to throw the motor back in my Mach 1 and am questioning putting the stock dampener back on it. I'm throwing a turbo on the car so no crazy loads on the crank like a SC motor would see so am I fine with the stock piece?

This is a DOHC mod motor BTW

If it's anything like a pushrod balancer, as soon as you drive it off the lot.

NHRA rules are 10.99 or faster have to have sfi approved harmonic balancer. The stock piece will be fine for anything under prolly 600rwhp.

My goal is 700rwhp but it will probably live at lower boost most of the time. I don't plan on tracking it either. I think I'll just stick the OEM dampener on and call it a day.

just watch for the rubber inside the outer ring slipping out

when it does the timing marks will be off and if it slips very far it will make your motor vibrate.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
