You can get complete '99-'01 cobra motors for $800-$2000 all day long. I got one (including shipping) for $750, and it pulls hard. It's not a very hard swap.
Even a B-head mark VIII motor (DIRT cheap to free lol) with a cobra intake and a tune will make +/- 300rwhp

Research MMR, you'll probably want to avoid them.

On the 99-01 swap now at 750 that's something to think about

im running a 5.4, completely stock motor less the intake and yes its a ton of fun. great torque. easy swap and i even spin my stocker to 7k on occasions. power falls off about 6500 though. its a plug and play swap. id get the hardball'r 5.4 swap intake rather than the crappy adapter plates. other than that and a couple of small things its literally a plug and play setup! and yes you could use your cams from your 4.6. heck if you find a pre 99 motor just swap your heads over

i would like the extra tq from the 5.4 with my heads and cams and with my 150shot on top of that my tq would be awsome

                        5.4 2v dyno numbers

                        --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                        Mods are
                        k&n dropin filter
                        75mm tb
                        plenum
                        75 shot of nitrous

Car has stock heads/cams/intake and headers on 93 pump. 371whp/495rwtq(sae) on a 75 shot. Tried stepping it up to a 175 shot but the clutch wouldnt hold(spec 2+) I expect 475/625 on the 175 shot. All in all, highly recommend this swap IF your engine needs a rebuild. Car is an absolute blast to drive. Made 271/360 untuned with no timing and 10.2 a/f. Id expect after a spoton tune and a few more boltons 300/390.
                        __________________
this guy on another fourmposted these numbers i made 305hp at gear heads on my 4.6 set up on motor and 430 or so on the 150 wet shot
im guessing the 5.4 will make the same power with my cams and bolt ons with more tq

Whatever you decide, I would highly suggest forged internals if the budget allows

yeah you will see a good load more torque and a little more power. what is your current setup as far as exhaust goes? i ended up killing a clutch, and twisting an axle tube on mine being out at the drag strip. the car is tons of fun to drive. the difference was night and day

You sure thats a 2v? Those untuned numbers sound really inflated to me. What intake is he running on that combo?
