That sucks James. When I did my system I used a new compressor, condensor, lines, accumulator. The only thing I reused was the evap. Of course, I don't know how well it has held up since the car hasn't ran in over a year.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Next one fill the compressor with oil and let it stand upright on the clutch end for awhile to let oil seep down through the unit

Depends on their return policy but dont be surprised if they wont take it back. Too many backyard mechanics thinking they can do A/C work using those bottles of freon at the auto parts stores with the built in gauges instead of properly pulling a vacuum and using proper gauges.

Amen to that and make sure it has some kind of warranty.

I learned a long time ago that the core compressors that we (recyclers) make up a large majority of core sales to the remanufacuters.

Some are good, units are dissasebled, bearings and seals are always replaced, and hard parts as needed or wearing hard parts done every time, depending on the rebuilder.

Others are tested, and if they work, they are washed and painted and slapped in a box. Buying a rebuilt/reman compressor is a gamble.

Looks and sounds like catastrophic failure. The seller will likely try put blame on the installer I'd assume. I'm a big fan of the Napa Temp New compressors. If he's willing to work with you, take a refund and put it towards a quality part with someone you can deal with in person. Make sure you ask what you need to change in order to have the warranty. I seriously doubt you can successfully flush you condenser, the passage ways in them are small and don't run in one big continuous loop like a long snake. Google condenser designs and read up on how they flow the refrigerant to be efficient. I know no one likes spending money they don't think they need to, but I've had the last 16 years of working on this stuff to know that you can't always cheap out. I hate telling a customer they need to spend a few more hundred dollars on parts and labor, but it's better for me to explain it up front and let them decide if they want me to do it to the best of my ability or gamble it's going to be okay and void their warranty with me.

Cut away out of a R134a condenser, there are several different designs, but this is the only one I have actually cut away as a reference.

good deal, glad to hear he worked with ya. If it was me, just to make sure I got my T's crossed and I's dotted, I would take to someone like your buddy and have him do the flush and everything and write you up a reciept so if the new one goes out then you have a paper trail showing your doing everything in your power to make sure it survives.

The only rebuilder I trust is YellowROse. Never had an issue with any of their rebuilds and they always give me gaskets/o-rings for free.

I had the same problem when i installed all my new stuff. went and bought a rebuilt "murry" brand and it had clutch noise from day one.
                          One day at a time.

I would definitely replace condenser and other parts as you mentioned. A pressurized flush MAY help but I doubt. Reference above pic of small passage ways. Please heed compressor/oil recommendation above as well. Compare to starting an engine without pre-lubing.
