  • Compressor failure within a few minutes.

Got a new compressor for my coupe, put a new orifice tube and a new accumulator (standing up this time), flushed the lines and the evap and condensor. Put 4oz of pag 46 in the comp and. 4 oz in the accum. Had a shop charge it. Took the charge and blew cold. Got home and it was blowing smoke into the car. Got out and the comp clutch was sparking. When I try to spin the clutch by hand it has a definite rough spot that I can barely turn it by hand and feels shitty.

Thinking it might have just been a pos eBay rebuild and try to get a refund. But I want to know what could kill it that fast.

Could have just been a bad comp. Are you sure all the lines were clear?

I flushed every line, evap, and condensor. Everything else was new.

          That's not a good sign.

Could they have mixed some R12 and R134a at the shop? Also, if you had it all together, why not just charge it yourself? That is by far the easiest part.

I didn't do it myself because a buddy owns a shop and has a fancy AC machine and he owed me a favor so he did it for free.

With that said there is no way there was r12 in there, the machine uses a big 30lb tank.

Pressures all looked good when we were charging.

I'm sure this eBay seller will blame it on me.

Did it inject refrigerant in the system while running? If so was it on the high or low side and where are the ports located on the system?

                        Shitty rebuild.

It shelled out pretty damn fast. The only other possibilities are trash in the condenser making its way to the compressor from the previous failure and or lack of oil.

Not exactly, refrigerant injected in the system at the wrong place in the wrong form it can cause catastrophic failure.
