I agree with you in most case, but it all depends. If it's a good deal and you can get 0% there is nothing wrong with buying a new car.

If you pay sticker...yeah, I'd agree. The last few cars I have bought, I paid less off the lot than what they were selling for 2 and 3 years later. Just nature of the truck market.

Given how most people don't maintain their vehicles, I really don't want what someone else treated like shit. You would be amazed at how many people don't change their oil for 20k miles or more. I don't want that problem and you don't know what you are getting. I've owned a repair shop and seen what people DON'T do to maintain their cars...it's SCARY!!!!

Also, given the high cost of repairs for transmissions, ecu's, electronic a/c controls, blah blah blah, yeah, I want the fuggin' warranty. I'm tired of working till midnight after work replacing a power steering pump or alternator when I can call the dealer and tell them "fix this". Most simple repairs start a $600 now days. Hell, I got rid of my 04.5 Dodge because it needed 2800 in front axle repairs at 60k miles. I could have done it myself for about $900 in parts... but I didn't feel like taking 2 days to do it while having to rent tools and presses to do it right. So I put that 900 in repairs down on a new truck that I stole off the lot and have not looked back.

if you buy a 4wd Cummins "right", you can drive it for free or close to it for a couple/few years...

you can't do that w/ a gas suv

I paid 32 for my 07 Tahoe (lt3)and it stickered at 45. They'll come waaaay of the sticker on them at the end of the year.

$10k, if not more. They'll be begging you to buy them. It'll be a repeat of what happened a few years ago.

I've been priced out of the new car market for quite a while now. With that said, you can usually look around and find something used for a lot less than new. I've recently bought 3 used cars (one with a salvage title) and they all ran well, with just minor cosmetic and mechanical stuff to fix.

I'll never darken a dealer's showroom again. Let some other fool pay the depreciation and trade it in at 100k miles LOL...

The gas mileage issue is very easy to fix with gm v8's in latemodel trucks. Tuning, exhaust, and a nice air intake will put it in the low 20's easy

I wonder if the higher pricing is a backdoor way to discourage the purchase of a full-size SUV, in order to try to meet CAFE. What's really crazy about that markup vs. pickups is, they're still way cheaper to build than unibody vehicles, so why the massive upcharge?
