  • Recommendations for complete 5.3/6.0 ls swap drivetrain?

    I'm considering a 5.3/6.0 4L60e or 80e with a 241c transfer case in my grand wagoneer.

Several have done it and its fairly straight forward once you find a good driveline.

Does anyone have any good recommendations on where to find a complete drivetrain with wiring, accessories, sensors, and drive-by-wire pedal and ecm?

Seems everyone around my area wants to nickel and dime you for each piece.

I saw several DFW auto salvage posts on craigslist but I hate buying from them without knowing their reputation.

    Thanks
    Shawn

Here's what it will all be going into...

There was a 5.3 for $500 w/ harness on Craigslist a month ago and 4l80e 4wd transmissions all the time for $300-500.

I'd also recommend an early 5.3 I think pre 2003 is the cable actuated throttle.

Drive by wire would work just fine, but I'd rather have a cable personally.

And for it goes buying used parts is always a gamble, so judge your seller and try and get some type of gaurentee out of them.

I've heard horror stories and I've heard good stories. I've been lucky so far though.

Jason at LKQ took care of me when I bought the 6.0 for my wagon. He's good buddies with DJ (Baron on here).

Call him and tell him you're on the board and tell him what you're looking for.

His direct number is (469) 941-3713.

Honestly, for the swap, id check out some of the jeep forums, its becoming a very popular swap in just about anything now, lol. Theres lots of info for guys that have already encountered the headaches on getting things running too.
Id call Jason/DJ for a engine and piece together the rest. 4l80Es cant be found pretty cheap on craigslist if you keep an eye out for a deal and scoop it up. There was a recent swap on LS1tech in a cherokee where the guy outlined what was needed for the T-case too, for whichever tranny youre going to run.

If you go 4l80e and you piece it, look for a transfer case with a 32 spline input. 4l60e gets a 27 spline input. Not a crucial.thing but splitting the case to swap.an input ain't that fun.

You can see the difference side by side but by itself they look similar.
Take plenty of pix. Looks like a nice wagoneer.I like woodgrain.

NICE ride and great idea for a project.

There is an OLD land rover down the street from our house at a German/Import repair place that I think would LOVE an LSx swap but I don't need anymore projects. I'd love to have it and then put a carbed non electronic motor in it for a SHTF vehicle....but again. space and time is at a premium.

Car-part.com will give you national listings of anything you need.

                    I only buy from 3 yards/salesmen

Not saying other places are bad, just that these companies/sales reps give me the best stuff.

If you want their #'s just shoot me a PM

It will be a while before I can afford to dive into the LS swap as I'm buying a home. With that said, I'll be sure to update on it.

I've got plans to modernize it a bit...but keeping the woodgrain and the old classic look.

The grill is getting converted to the older rhino grill with the 4-eye headlight setup (round), like they had in the mid to late 60's. I have all of that already, but wont get it finished until I get my welder setup at the new house.

Thanks for the contacts - and the offers to PM for more contacts. When I am ready I will definitely be using them. I am located near Galveston (stationed here with USCG), so a little ways from DFW but it seems you guys have a lot more salvaged cars in good condition than the Houston and San Antonio area. Or, maybe they are just better at advertising them?

                        Thanks again,
                        SQ

Pull A Part in Texarkana told me $900 for the whole setup if you pull it. Engine, trans, harness, driveshaft, computer all. The only thing is I don't think they give you is the fuel tank.

What engine/trans was that? ANy idea what the mileage was?

                            2x4 or 4x4?

                            That's a great deal...
