  • Picked up a short block and 347 parts.

Today I ran across a great deal on Craigslist, a stock short block and 6 probe 347 rods and pistons.

Can I find 2 more and be good? Or is there more to it than that? I am primarily interested in the connecting rods, they're 4340 h beams. Probe rates the full kit at 800hp I believe.

Try to match as closely as you can the weights of the rods and pistons, not just total weight, but big end and little end of the rods and the weight of the piston.

Buy 2 identical rods/pistons and have the whole rotating assembly balanced. And 800hp rated rods dont mean much in a 500-600hp block. But still a nice setup if the price was right

So no two sets of rods are the same?

I know what rod they are, or was told, do they not sell them individually?

I was looking into a dart shp block, getting a 347 crank, 2 rods and a set of 4.125s. With the wet dream of a turbo charger.

You'll have to call the manufacturer, a lot of places sell singles but it's not something they advertise. When you're looking through a catalog and see the weights of things it's an average and all the components are within a tolerance of that number. Good performance rods are matched to be as close as they can be from the factory. You need to pull at least a couple of rod/pistons apart and weight the ends and call probe and see if they can get you a couple that can complete the set, the same with pistons. If I were you I'd have the rods, pistons and crank checked for cracks, when you see a set of rods and pistons that are short it can be an indication that the engine was blowed the fuck up.

I don't have the crank, I just picked up a spare stock short block and these rods and pistons.

He had mentioned that the missing two were from a boom bitch a friend had. I'll have to check them all out, absolutely.

Have your machine shop magnaflux ALL that shit, block and everything. If it's missing two piston/rods and the crank I'm willing to be there's some bent or broken shit in the stuff you bought.

                    No, it's a short block. Factory 5.0 from a 96 f150. Got it for a back up.

The rods and pistons were also included.

                    For $100

Wait, it's blowed up stock shit? Tell me exactly what parts you have that were included in the engine that decided to take a day off.

You were including superfluous information. The stock shit is irrelevant to the conversation. Have the probe parts checked.

Well, I thought it was clear it was separate.

Would that require a special machine shop? Or can I go to the local planned parenthood and ask to borrow the ultra sound?
