  • &3 Delta 88 help

My coworkers husband is restoring a 73 Delta 88, and is having an issue with it. After it warms up It starts running real rich, and bogs out and dies. He says he's getting black smoke out the tail pipes when it happens. He's replaced the carb, and the fuel pump. Any ideas?

Electronic or mechanical choke? And is fuel pressure adjustable?

Also if he put an edelbrock care on it they run pretty rich out of the box.

Those old cars are simple. Air, fuel, and fire. Those old cars DO have A.I.R. on them with a valve that can become inoperable because of carbon buiild-up.

most of those old v8's used quadrajets. it needs a good fuel filter and the old fuel may be trashed. Make sure he drained the tank and used new fuel.

He's drained the tank, new fuel sender, new pump, and new carb. You say it had an electric choke? that could be a problem.
