  • How to reset oil life moniter on 2012 Mustang?

Grapevine Ford did the first oil change for free, I just did the second one. The system does NOT sense the new oil. Says I have 36% oil life left. How do you reset the system?

    google is your friend....

    OIL LIFE
This displays the remaining oil life.

An oil change is required whenever indicated by the message center and
according to the recommended maintenance schedule. USE ONLY
    RECOMMENDED ENGINE OILS.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change perform
    the following:

    1. Press and release SETUP to display “OIL LIFE XXX% HOLD RESET = NEW”.
    2. Press and hold RESET for two seconds and release to reset the oil life to 100%.

If that doesn't work maybe try turning it Ito run but don't start it and hit the gas pedal like 3 or 4 times. I think I've done that to a few fords.

        Thanks Lason

But it sounds like the system's ability to actually sense the condition of the oil is BS. It's timed or mileage calibrated.

and time I believe, I got that info from a thread with a guy wondering why his GT500 shows 29% even though he only had 450 miles on it. Seems because he didnt drive it regularly.

Stands to reason actually. Even if you don't lay on the miles like I do (2 years old, 36000 miles), you still need to get that old oil out.
