  • 96-98 Cobra, IMRC?

Is there another control box that helps open close or is it only at the PCM?

+1. There is an electric control box mounted on the drivers side back of the engine that opens and closes them.

No we have already tried that, I loaned this buddy of mine my control box since his IMRC control box opens up at start up, and they stay open.
In a normal operating condition the IMRCs stay closed until the rpms reach 3250rpm and then stay open above that rpm and close under. His, for some odd reason open up at start up.
He un-plugged his box, plugged in mine and he rev'd up to over 3250 and and they opened, he got off the accelerator and they closed and then at idle, they opened back up and stayed open.
We thought it was the control box that hangs under the intake, but unless there is another control box that sends the signal other than the PCM it might be the PCM, thats my guess. Unless on a Cobra the MRCC (?) that is under the passenger fender may control the IMRC's.

This is probably your best option I don't think they make the motors or control box anymore. You won't notice much unless you have gears that are below 4:10's and it will just feel a bit sluggish under 3500.

If I recall right, I believe the control box under the intake is the only thing in addition to the pcm. But I could be wrong, I just deleted mine late last year..

Does he have some after market tune that could be messing with the open/close action? Are you talking about the CCRM? That controls fan speeds and I think the fuel pump relay, nothing to do with the IRMC's.

I have a spare controller under the intake and the composite plates (98) laying around I would be willing to let go. Mine stuck every now and then, probably because the butterflys were a little gummed up.. But the box should be in good shape. The plates would be good to make the deletes out of..

Thanks HC, thats what I was needing to know and yes the CCRM is the acronym that I was looking for. I have replaced one (CCRM) on a 03GT and it controlled all kinds of wierd shit. The coil packs, high/low speed fan, injectors, etc. So I thought it might be that the Cobras IMRCs were maybe being run by that, but its good to know that we are on the same page on the PCM.

Ive seen some wierd shit happen with that PCM, other things have happened to me three times already.
