All the timing stuff is new, but I've been reading about that. I didn't recheck the cam sprockets for looseness, I'll probably end up pulling the timing cover too. Sonofabitch.

it is a stroker crank and stage 2 cams so it probably doesn't sound like a stock motor would, I wouldn't think

ya id check the cam sprocket bolts. and like Donsvo suggested the oil pressure. if the lash adjusters arent getting pumped up it will rattle like that

stock bearings and turned crank will jack with oil pressure.

Rod and crank bearings create the majority of the oil pressure. The pump creates volume.

So what can cause the lash adjusters not to get oil?

as an aside, that sounds like rollers or timing chain clatter. If everything is new (new hydraulic timing chain tensioners and not just the guides?), I'd be hooking up an oil pressure gauge with a quickness.

... insufficient volume and/or insufficient pressure.

Example: wrong size bearings won't allow proper oil pressure to the heads. The lifters require pressure to pump and stay pumped. The oil basically spews out the side of the crank journals and into the pan instead of pressurizing the top end hydraulic components.

Morgan and Sons polished the crank, ordered the bearings, and assembled the short block.... I would hope that they checked all that crap

Pulled passenger side valve cover and it looks like oil is making it up there. Haven't pulled the timing cover yet, but there is a slight but of play in the upper part of the chain where I can grip it with the valve cover off. Video to follow.
