A/C compressor is locked up and when the clutch engages it stalls the motor, or (and far more likely) you need to do an idle relearn.

Clear the codes with a scanner or disconnect the battery for a while. Start the car with the a/c on and immediately drop it into drive if it's and auto or leave it in neutral if it is a standard. Let it idle until it is fully at operating temperature, do not touch the gas do not turn off the a/c. Usually one time does the trick.

That mystery wire is for the Hood light. I posted up on the Corral way back in the day and then called the Ford dealer with the part number and finally got the answer...

I just stuffed it back behind the plastic cowl piece since I didn't have a hood light and didn't want a random wire hanging down in my engine bay

Interesting. I will try this tonight. Thanks.

your dying when the AC comes on could be a ground issue. when I had my 4.6 out I forgot to hook the ground wire back up to the engine on the drivers side and it died when the fan came on...

I was thinking about that earlier, I'm pretty sure he meant on the entire forum, and he's probably serious.

Does a stock 2v make enough hp to run the A/C?

as long as its in park or the clutch is pushed in.

Elvis was right. My nails did need to be trimmed AND the mystery connector is for the under hood light. Thanks for the help. +1 for you, and for the others that made suggestions.

Now if I can figure out where the engine knock is coming from I'll be GTG.

BTW, disconnecting the AIC kills it. I removed it for inspection and it looks brand new, although it should since I bought it less than a year ago. The idle re-learn worked pretty damn good too, thanks for that. It took a few minutes for the idle to settle but once it did the engine stays running with the ac on.

Now to address why it sounds like a Cummins. More to come.

I triple checked the ground, it is good.

Do you have a real oil pressure gauge?

Nope, just the dash-dummy one. I looked down into the passenger side head through the oil fill and really didn't see much oil slingin' around. Gonna pull that valve cover tonight.
