  • Boom Bitch

I work in fleet repair for my local city and usually get to see/get to do some neat stuff but have never seen anything like this. Car is a 02 Chevy Impala with a 3.8l Buick motor, we got a call saying it had a dead battery and wouldn't start. All was good when we went to jump the car until the hood was popped to reveal this.

Towed the turd back to the shop and this was all the pieces that were left to remove from upper intake.

My initial thought was too much starting fluid but there was no sign of any being used. After looking a little deeper the culprit was found, the diaphragm in this little fella was bad letting raw fuel get sucked straight into the intake at some point it lit.

Anyway thought some of y'all would like the pics.

Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

I thought that this thread was going to be about 91CoupeMike's car.

That intake is done, I've never seen anything like that happen but I have heard often that they are fragile.

Has it been through intake gaskets yet? Waterpump gaskets are pretty common on high mile LS motors as well.

Sorry to disappoint, but I did get a chuckle out of that.

We had a customers car do that while we were trying to diagnose the starting problem. Loaded the intake up, backfired, and had similar results. Ours wasn't as drastic at yours, however, it was pretty damn loud and unexpected while under the hood when it happened.

That's whats funny the people that drive the unit said nothing of loud bangs just a no start.

Prob because they had the radio on 11. Non service people, or non car people dont give a crap about a bang or something dragging. They keep going until the car/truck goes no more, and then wonder why.

This is very true had a crown vic with a bad axle bearing get drove till the axle broke. It's funny how the car can be Damn near falling apart and it will still get drove but if the AC is broke that bitch is turned in first thing.
