Are all 4.6 2v the same?

Threw a rod in a 2001 GT and looking for a replacement motor. Do they all fit/work from a mustang/vic/f-150 or do I need a specific one?

They are not all the same... There are Romeos and Windsors and both come in NPI and PI configurations. Your motor will be a PI motor but you will need to verify whether you have a Windsor versus a Romeo based on the valve cover bolt count.

The Stang came with a Windsor, I replaced it with a Romeo. Pretty much anything 01+ us all the same longblock, just have to put the mustang specific stuff like intake, oil pan and exhaust on it.

you have a romeo. the heads are a little different (the cam caps), different number of valve cover bolts, the front engine cover is different (i think) and the romeo has a 6 bolt crank vs 8 for the windsor

long story short is if you have a Windsor, stick with the Windsor stuff. If you have a Romeo, stick with the Romeo stuff.

This can be a really long answer, best summed up by fastlane. What exactly are you looking to do/replace? I actually have a stock Windsor shortblock for sale with about 70k miles in great shape.

I got a '01 5.4 2v with 70k miles from my pops. I'm going to go that route after reading up how "easy" it is to swap it.

Just find you a low mileage Vic/marquis/town car motor, 03+ and swap out the intake exhaust and pan. Normally those are the cheapest 4.6's to find...
