If you get a 6.0 keep in mind the turbos fail on the 100k mile mark due to the VGT.. Remans usually dont come with the solenoid and fail again..

Go with a NEW GT3788VA, Livewire or H&S and a decent turbo back with EGR delete and you will enjoy it for a long time.

6.0 has a bad rap but can be a reliable truck with care.

Also, check the up pipes as they are problematic as well.

If the expectation that a 3/4+ ton truck is to be perfect after 85k miles I guess I just don't see it as being reasonable. I've worked around used cars for most of my life and experience has told me that after 80k miles, shit starts failing. With new technologies, I could see that milestone moving to 100k miles on newer built cars but it's always been my experience that these trucks usually live hard lives, ride like shit and vibrate things apart. Throw in the fact most owners don't maintain their vehicles at all and yeah, stuff is going to age and fail. Not sure what the expectation is on plastic parts left in the sun in Texas actually is but 5 to 7 years of heat cycles and driving is going to turn ANYTHING to crap.

I've worked on just about every major brand of car, truck and SUV out there and I guess I just don't see where there is that big a difference. In my mind, they are all crap and have good and bad features.

I know Forrest thinks I am crazy as I don't mind the 3rd gen dodge interiors and can't stand the fords. To each their own and we each go with what we know.

I would still like to see the dash pics you offered as well as the mileage/age. Curious as to what I might see if I keep it long enough!
The new Ford interiors are great... now that didnt happen until I believe 08. Ford kept the same damn interior with its two spoke steering wheel from 1998 or so.

People bitch and complain about Dodge interiors being ugly but what was so great about the Ford interior until 2008? Absolutely nothing. Dodge got a nicer interior in 2006

      1998

      2007...same damn ugly interior

to prove your point a bit more, replace the picture of the 1998 f250 with this pic of the f250 super duty, to match the SD in your second pic.

Yeah I am ok with the interiors. You can either get a bunch of new shit that is not tried and tested or you can go with basic stuff that works for a very long time.

I like new stuff, but all I see in new technology and neat contraptions for convenience is money flying out the window down the road. Automated stuff, weird "auto" climate control, etc. It's awful. Give me an AM/FM radio with an aux. input, manual roll down windows, and a supportive seat and I'll be happy.
The new Fords still have the option to have it basic, but I'm just talking about the car industry as a whole.

The new (by new, I mean '08-'10ish) Ford SD interiors feel cheap to me. They look good, but our '00 Excursion feels more solid in comparison, despite the mediocre look to it.

If this was for me, finished it last night. Truck runs so smooth and pulls like an electric motor. Very linear and quick throttle response. With the manual box I am able to accellerate the same with 400 less revs. Runs great below 1600 rpm where it was a dog before.

Just using the #2 towing tune on the smary jr as it tries to blow through the clutch in 5th 6th gears with too much throttle

Looks like you found the weak link! That's awesome though how these trucks respond to the deletes and tunes. I bet it's much more of a blast to drive now. Have fun with it

Not going to say it's a blast because the G56 shifts like an old dump truck box, but I will say it's more enjoyable to drive. Before it took forever to respond to throttle application and then boost would JUMP on and you at 1500rpm and then bam...shift. It would fall on it's face after 2300 rpm. Now it's just linear with little to no boost lag, instant throttle response and far fewer parts to worry about failing with the EGR crap gone. I do need to get me an EGT gauge but that is a project for another day.
