  • Valvetrain gurus inside please.

I had posted my dyno results on the corral and Facebook and I a few people ask me what was going on at 5800rpm and suggestion the issue could be in the valvetrain. They say it could be valve float. Here's the chart.

The cam is 218/228 510/511 112 with 1.6 rocker arms.

    • Valve Springs:
1.470 Hydraulic Roller Valve Spring -
CC 987, 125 lb Closed, 325 lb open,
    1.900 Installed Height
    .575 Maximum Lift

I have stock lifters. And stock length pushrods. Cam was installed straight up as recommended.

    For those who don't know;
    Brodix st 5.0r heads
    Holley systemax
    Ect...

Anderson does suggest using 1.7 rocker arms with the cam. Could it be a case of not enough lift?

Are the lifters new or old high mileage? I had trouble years ago with some used lifters not being strong enough to handle the spring pressure.. Also what is your oil pressure like?

They are the old ones. Stock oil pressure gauge, so not sure. It appears good, always well over half.

I never liked the stock gauge if u get a mechanical one stay away from the cheap nylon lines. U should of changed out lifters while you were already there might be your issue. Good luck

I cant speak for the fox stuff, but the newer cords are a glorified oil pressure light. The pressure switch on needs 5 or 10 psi to signal the gauge. If its like the newer stuff the.gaige doesn't slowly rise but jumps to the near identical spot every time and doesn't move up and down simulating pressure change.

x2. The gauge in my '02 cummins was pretty accurate though I believe. When the oil was cold, it had higher pressure, hot it dropped some, amount effected it, etc. The one on my mach is always the same.

They have a way you can modify your gauge and run a real sending unit.

Learned that lesson myself. 60 psi and a leak makes a huge mess and little fire too.
                Some cars and a bike...

Some say... they have been raced, some a lot

I was talking fords, my 2000 cummins is a working pressure gauge as is chevys, although they have a shit ton of cluster problems

                    I don't think it's a lifter problem

How did you adjust the lifters? The valvesprings are plenty if their really 125 at the seat. What anderson cam is it?
                    The 1.6 rockers isn't a problem.
Don't worry about what you can't change.
Do the best you can with what you have.
Be honest, even if it hurts.

Why in the hell did you use old lifters on a new cam?

Spun the nut until it stopped, half turn and locked the poly lock.

Cam wasn't brand new. And from everywhere I've seen. Reusing hydraulic roller lifters isn't a big deal.
