    Oh damn lulz.

Do you have the exact codes? I'll see what else I can dig up.

Huh? Are you sure that's not p0174 and p0171?

Pretty much everything covered already, most likely a dirty maf, exhaust leak near the o2, pcv hose line leak or other vacuum leak. I would go over every sensor and hose, clean and inspect it.

            Here's a checklist for ya.....

It is a lean code, so the car should be running rich. If your fuel side checks out ok, then it's a vacuum leak or dirty/faulty sensor. If that checks out then I would move on to exhaust. Most likely a dirty/faulty/disconnected sensor.

I wish I knew how to check that stuff. A guy on the board offered to look it over so I'm gonna let him check it out before I take it to a shop.

If you would like. I will fix the car tomorrow, so you can get it inspected tomorrow and have everything fixed for your fixit ticket.

I feel bad you are going through all of this.

It's cool man, just find someone willing to help you out who could give you a crash course in it. You're in the right place. It's very simple stuff once you get the grasp of it. I just hate to see people throw money away because they didn't have the knowledge but had the intrest to learn. Hell you come to Sachse tomorrow I'll do it for free in my heated shop.

Presumably to allow more air to flow. I've been using one for several years now with no CEL issues, along with an aftermarket midpipe & catback and intake spacer. I did get a tune after installing it however.

That's BS. I've had two experiences at two different shops where the inspector visually checked for cats.

                            1. Carb cleaner leaves a residue when it dries, Electronics cleaner & Mass Cleaner is designed to dry residue free. If you use carb cleaner to remove any buildup but it dries leaving a residue then you haven't accomplished much.

                            2. It is plausible that an aftermarket intake system or even a k&n style drop in filter can affect the way the air flow into/through the meter causing incorrect readings and potentially setting codes.

One of the tech seminars I attended had a case study in which the vehicle had lean codes for both banks (case vehicle was a ford iirc). Long story short, the drop in k&n affected the airflow into the mass differently than a factory style filter, causing the computer to think the airflow was off and eventually setting the codes.

                            3. If cleaning the mass properly and making sure you don't have any vacuum leaks, or connection problems between the mass and throttle body doesn't provide you a cure, then take it to a repair shop that can properly diagnose the problem.

Throwing problems at it can get expensive quickly.

Some time with a scan tool watching the fuel trims while at idle and cruise would help to determine if the mass is still dirty. Generally for it to affect both banks, your problem will be something that affects the motor as a whole. I wouldn't expect it to be the o2 sensors as they rarely fail at the exact same time. Same with an injector type problem. Also, the car doesn't have to run very lean to set the codes. Most of the time other than the light being on you would never notice a running problem associated with the codes.

I say clean the MAF with correct clening product or replace it. Is the PCV loose or unplugged? Blown intake gasket?
