  • CEL still on???

I replaced my or x with a catted h. I removed the battery cable and after the install, the computer reset so the light went off. This morning the light came back on. what could be the issue? bad o2's? how do I know?

You might have to drive it for a long while to reset it. Maybe 40 miles or so.

but I thought it would reset after the battery was unhooked and it was driven a couple of days, which leads me to believe it isnt fixed.

Might have to reset it with a scanner.

I think disconnecting the battery resets MIL codesthe same as clearing them with a scanner does.

O.P., did you read the code after the CEL came back on to see if it was still O2 sensor/cat related?

Yeah, I would verify what the actual codes are for before doing anything else. They may not even be related to the H pipe. Take it to Autozone and they will read the codes for free.

Got 'em read. It isn't the exhaust. Its running lean on both banks. The guy said it was because of the cai, and unhooking the battery again would fix it. Is he right? or is there something else to fix the air/fuel ratio?

Could be any number of things. Exhaust leaks will make the o2 sensors indicate a lean condition. Faulty o2 sensors or related wiring usually result in a lean code. Vacuum leaks, faulty fuel injectors, and other actual lean-inducing problems can cause it. The cold air intake will not cause that code to come up.

How many miles are on your car and when was the last time you replaced the o2s?

125k, I've only had the car for a little while, so idk.

I, personally, would ASSUME the wiring and the injectors are okay. Listen for exhaust leaks, check for severe vacuum leaks, and if everything looks good you might just go ahead and replace the o2 sensors. They are a maintenance item anyway.

I think there might be a vacuum leak. there has been a noise lately, when I first start it, that kind of sounds like air escaping and the idle raises and lowers a bit, but after it warms up the sound goes away. Sound like it? Idk, if not I'm taking it to an exhaust shop on friday anyways, could they check the 02's?

                            That person is a dumbass.

When you did the swap, I bet it's leaking air.

Fresh air over the o2s will throw a lean code.

Check your flanges from the header and Also inspect the h for any other leaks.

Check sensor bung is sealed too.

No. You don't have a vacuum leak. That sound is your engine sucking air through the filter.

When the engine is warm is the only time o2s are in use. So if the sound is gone when it's warm, I highly doubt its the cause of the light.

When you switched mid pipes did you swap the o2s aswell?

If not, along with a exhaust leak I bet your problem lies there.

Check for leaks, swap back to known good o2s and reset the light.

Was the code p0420 with the o/r pipe?
