Mountain out of a mole hill.

    1. Disconnect battery.

    2. Use some CRC Mass Air Meter cleaner from AutoZone to clean the meter. Reinstall and verify that all 4 plug wires on the harness are not frayed or the plug itself is damaged.

    3. If you have a real sharp turn radius on elbow right before the meter, this will affect sampling. If you do have a sharp angle right before the meter, then find a way to mock up something to where the air is going into the meter straighter with less of an acute angle. Temporarily change it from a CAI to a RAI for testing purposes.

    4. Reconnect battery

    5. If you have a K&N. Do not over oil it when you recharge it.

I had a c&l on my 96 cobra that kept throwing a code too. everybody I took it to said my o2 sensors were messed up, so I'd change them and CEL always came back. I put my stock parts back on with a drop in k&n and never had a problem again.

Well @#!*% . I hate to spend money buying something if I don't know it's right. I only have til the first of the month to get this pos inspected or I'm gonna have to pay the ticket. I think the best thing to do is just take it somewhere.

You did what? You cleaned the MAF with carburetor cleaner? Please tell me you're joking.

sprayed it on a q tip and cleaned it. Is that something I shouldn't have done?

Carb cleaner is very harsh and will/can damage the fine wire.

This is why they make a cleaner special for MAF sensors.

Denatured alcohol works the same if not better.

Using a q tip is okay as long as you don't leave any fibers behind, because they will insulate the wire just like grime and it will throw a lean code.

What I have found that works best, use the pressure from the aerosol can to knock off the grime and let it air dry. ~5 min.

I have a scanner that reads live data, it can tell you if the MAF is giving a flawed reading.

If you are using a c&l trade it to someone for a stock housing and don't look back until you are flowing enough air to even need a bigger meter.

Goddammit kid. Didn't I say to go pick up some cleaner that's for cleaning the MAF? You're cleaning a piece of very sensitive electronic wiring, with something that's used to clean carbon off of metal. Find a stock meter from somebody and slap that on, like mentioned. You don't need a bigger meter with your mods right now. The only time you need a bigger, aftermarket meter is if you are changing out your fuel injectors.

Unless you know exactly what the reading should be at a given rpm with a given amount of airflow your live data won't do you a lot of good. If the sensor reads some complete off the wall measurement you might catch the problem. But, I only do this everyday for a living so I might be wrong.

Also, I've got a stock meter from a 98 gt with a drop in k&n I'll sell you if needed. Oh, and carb cleaner is bad, using the q-tip is not recommended but I've done it before. You have to be careful not to damage the sensor.

98 GT and 96-98 cobra PCM's aren't the same. Look at it this way, the GT has a SOHC 205hp 4.6 with 19# injectors, compared to the cobra with a 4.6 DOHC 305hp, with 24# injectors.

I was going to check for what normal voltages are suppose to be and compare. Long shot but plausable.
