  • Permanent hard water spots?

Maintenance at Autozone decided to flip on the water sprinklers during the winter while my car was parked right next to one. Which leaded to the worst water spots I've encountered. I've tried everything from rubbing compound, polishing compounds from several brands. A power buffer, by hand. I've also tried washing it with several different soaps.. Nothing works. You can rub it with your finger but the results last minutes.

The last two are fresh after a polish with meguires mirror glaze #7.

I had some really bad ones in my black paint and used the Meguiars clay bar kit and it came right out. May give it a shot.

The sprinklers at my brother's apartment leave the exact same type of spots. I first noticed it on my his car which is black, and the clay bar helped a lot, but they never did completely go away.

I stayed there a few days and those damn sprinklers left those spots on my car also, so now I'm more determined to find a solution lol.
If you do figure out how to get rid of those water spots please post it on here.
I've tried (with a DA) Meguiar's rubbing compound, then polishing compound. It takes the cloudy look away from the spots, but still leaves the outline of them. It's very frustrating.

we are on a community well at our place and the water is so fucking soft and loaded with calcium and sodium that if left in a plastic pool in the summer you are left with a white crust when the water evaps. I have two black cars, the cobra and my mazda. Cobra stays in the garage but the mazda sits out. damn sprinklers have killed the paint until I can wax it again.
Fuck you. We're going to Costco.

Try meguiars M205. Not questioning your process but you need to work one small section at a time, work the compound until you can't see it anymore then clean with a microfiber pad.

Also the best car wash for the buck is the meguiars in the purple bottle for $6

If none of those works and you are confident in your waxing process go to 2000 grit sand paper on a small section. I strongly encourage you to try meguiars m205 it is hands down the best wax I have ever used

                      M205 is a polish. Not a wax

Exactly. The hard water mark is etched into the clear coat and a thin layer of the clear coat will have to be removed to get rid of the mark. I've never seen water mark that M205 with a cutting pad won't take out. Just be careful not to cut the clear coat too thin. If the mark is deep enough to feel, step up to the M105 if necessary.
