  • Evap delete, tank pressure?

I took the charcoal box off of my coupe during the h/c/I install. I had the line cut back by the fire wall but was getting a strong gas odor. So I put a cap on it.

Now when I take my fuel cap off it blows out of my hand.

    Normal? No?

    Solution?

You need a vent for the tank. You capped off the only one you had.. when i did my car, i first mounted the canister in passenger fender with it vented to the atmosphere. Now that i replaced all the fuel lines wwith SS braided lines, i removed it all together. I gut have a small rubber hose from vent valve to the edge of the tank. And will remove that when I put the A1000 in and go with a bigger vent.

I don't smoke, so I'm in the clear.

If I just vent it at the tank will it smell like strong gas? Is a charcoal canister the only way to avoid that?

Mine is not bad, i can smell it standing at the back of the car. You could mount the canister in the back if you wanted to keep it..

I modified the fuel cap on my Buick to allow it to vent pressure easier after removing the canister and plugging the vent line. I replaced the heavy springs on the vent diaphrams with light ones.

You can also find a smaller charcoal filter and relocate it somewhere. Gotta have a vent.

Take the cap off the line and run the line to the filler neck.

You can also run the line to the air intake before the mass air and the motor will take the fumes like the factory evac .

I would still leave the little solenoid hooked up so that it vents at the appropriate time. If you leave the purge solenoid hooked to the line then the tank won't purge below 1000 RPM on a fox car. By leaving this hooked up even without the solenoid you shouldn't get gas fumes at idle. This assumes the purge solenoid isn't leaking. You could just move it to the rear of the car and it will just vent to the atmosphere while you are driving.
